Earlier this week, Chimbo posted in the forums.

"It seems like a lot of information on upcoming stuff and changes that are coming is usually spread through the discord chat Channel which can be easily missed. It would be cool to see a little dev blog on things that are currently in the works and whats coming up every now and then"

I totally agree with this, and we will try to make this a weekly or biweekly occurrence. Like everything we do with SWAT we'd also love to hear your feedback at perhaps you can ask questions for us to talk about in our next weekly post.

Since this is the first post, I think I'll spend sometime talking about what has happened since launch that bring us to where we are at, outside of the latest release changelog. Some major areas ill talk about, Community, Development Team, and Upcoming Projects.

Community:

Starting with the community, this week we have recently hit 100k subscribers(averaging 2000 subs a day). Which is really freaken cool. While our average players has mostly stayed the same. We mainly contribute to SWAT being a game that take some time to love. The most encouraging stat on community growth is the discord channel, it seems like every day theres a new voice inside. And I encourage everyone to invite players to join it.

Discord:

Speaking more on discord, its fantastic! Between the cat pictures, and silent_kill(nightmarefails) Bot. Something always strange is going on. Also want to shout out to the community admins who have done well to keep the peace, and have squashed the trolls not with bans but maturity.

Being a community admin should be consider a great privilege. And has and will be taken away. This can been seen as harsh punishment. However, I prefer the viewpoint as this opens the doors for others to fill the void. Most recent addition has been Sakimura as a new community member, as his maturity and actively has shinned.

Forums:

The forums page has also reached a milestone, with 100th member! Still hoping we can get more activity here. If you have any ideas we'd love to hear them.(Maybe Teller or EK can post more on this)

Languages:

Probably my favorite part of this whole project is introducing SWAT to other languages. SWAT: Reborn is now playable in English, Chinese, Scandinavian, Russian(Beta only).

Special Thanks to Michael Lunderbye for Scandinavian Translation. And Gloom for the Russian Translation.

In the works: Spanish, and Vietnamese, Revised Chinese

Development Team:

We have a new developer on our team Trispast currently working on 3D Modelers. This is the first game Trispast has worked on, but is doing a fantastic job. Redesigning the boxes, and adding specific guns to the marine model. He is currently working on a new LAD model and stuff for Outskirts. Getting a 3D modeler for us is a huge relief, as we have been looking for a good one since our start.

Other notes: Tyler(Shooper) is currently on a two week vacation, will likely start working on Nightmare mode on his return.

Bikehelmet: is having some computer trouble but has plans for major additions to the server hopefully adding metrics and achievements, to the game.

Cazora(Me): Got new internet this week. And no longer feels like I am running on a potato.

Nightmarefails: is now listed as a developer candidate and is working on new particles for the game. The developer candidate flag should be lifted soon!

Upcoming Projects:

Probably the most asked question about SWAT is what is next. It is also on the forefront of all the developer's minds. We would all love to quit our day jobs and spend 50 hours a week adding content to the game. Unfortunately, this is not our currently reality, sometimes we have to wait. And ask for patience.

In addition, we also want to test out new content prior to a public release. All new content will live in our beta version for a least a week before release. To get the latest content in SWAT get involved in the beta. How to get in the beta? Stay active on discord and be kind to the developers. If your on discord when were doing testing you will likely get invited.

Alright Cazora enough chitchat tell us whats coming out next!

Okay here goes,

SWAT: Reborn Outskirts

After 10 years of the same city. New map will be made, same objectives same game just new paths and terrain. For the most part the American Epidemic was largely contained in the states, that was until Fall hit and the cooler temperatures attracted the horde south. The first to cross the border was in the mining town of Zihuatanejo. The UN desperate to contain the outbreak sent an elite mercenary squad to defend the town in hopes of containing the virus.

Map is currently being worked on a few select beta testers will be invited to play this weekend. The map is also designed to have fun holding spots, for fun extreme survival games. Goodbye grid city feel.

Extreme Survival:

Currently in Beta Extreme survival is modified version of the old tradition survival map that pretty much lasts until you kill your teammates. Extreme Survival starts out easy, by the 40th minute mark picks up like a mexican firecracker. With two boss spawns. And by the 70th minute Bosses have near max movement speed and Gargs are spamming web. In a game full of pros the current record is 77 minutes. With the last 10 minutes of just pure chaos.

Nightmare difficulty:

Outside the game release, the most anticipated content release is Nightmare! Just like the initial release in Aftermath, nightmare difficulty will start without Nemesis. In Nightmare, the mob will be stronger, you have to overachieve all objectives, while you have to fight against minibosses and commies, as well as new original content.

That's all for now.
